Hot means that the bearings probably spun in that rod and the friction generated heated up the rod. It is possible that the rod could be reconditioned, but it is also possible that the rod is trashed. Might be a good deal for the 5 good rods, then just buy 3 more to complete the set.
I wouldn't use them. The rods are deep inside the engine. It's not worth all the work to tear the engine down, rebuild it, and reinstall it only to have an issue with a "used" rod. Buy some decent rods (new) if you are rebuilding your engine. There is too much invested to take chances.
