Hey guys and girls,
I am wanting to do my first exhaust mod and wondered what everyone thought ? What should I get first or NOT get first ?? What is the most bang for the buck ? AND how much LOUDER do any of these mods make it over stock ? ANY help or suggestions are always appreciated ! Thanks in advance ~ Joe

I got the highlfow (2-cats) MAC "H" and love it...no gas fumes and no trouble come inspection time (I don't know if Florida has smog or not).
You need to help us with a bit more information.
Do you want louder sound? Is your main goal performance?
For sound I'd go with aftermarket X or H and Spintech Prostreet mufflers welded into the catback. I understand they sound great.
If your goal is performance then go with longtube headers, shorty H and Borla or Magnapack catback.
The "X" gives an exotic sound and the "H" keeps the lower musclecar grumble...that's why I went "H"...I didn't care a hoot if the "X" would have given me a few more horses.

Well I want better performance (duh) but I do have to drive this thing everyday and the "Fuzz" already harass me as it is so I don't want it to be excessivley loud, just sound GOOD !! has anyone noticed a dramatic improvement with any exhaust mods ? finally what's the best buy ? AND last but not least I would probably be better informed to make a decision if I knew what the hell was the difference between "x" "H" and "offroad" pipes ? I have no clue !! please help

Let me tell you. There is nothing like the sound of those Bullitt mufflers, and a MAC O/R H-pipe. Pure music for the ears! Now the X-pipes have their place for the best exhaust flow. I use one on my 85 LX.

Joe, the off-road pipes do not have cats, which means you need a way to keep the check engine light from coming on, I think that is what the mil eliminators do. The x and h pipes are simply shaped like x or h. The x flows a little bit better, and has a slightly higher pitched sound, like a Nascar car. The part about an x-pipe losing the deep musclecar rumble is a myth, mine has a nice deep rumble, and I can hardly detect any difference between the tone of the stock h and the Magnaflow x. I chose Spin Tech mufflers because I did not want the drone problem that others have with most of the mufflers, especially Flowmasters. Mine is nice and loud when I want it to be, screams at WOT, but purrs quietly on the highway, no drone. That's exactly what I was looking for, but you may not have the same goal as me. There are many good choices for exhaust, you just need to decide exactly what you are trying to achieve.

Joe, There's an excellent article in the Jan. issue of MM&FF about exhaust modifications. Everything you ever want to know about headers, H-pipes, X-pipes, etc. The article is called "What's Kooking"? Lot's of info. Cheers, Tony

I went with the magna flow x pipe w/cats...and borla catback...all together the x and catback cost $900...for performance this is the a good way to go..i feel a difference in torque in all rpm ranges....its not overly loud..it hasnt even really broke in for me..around the 2000's rpm range it sounds nice sound and rumble...at full throtle it is fairly loud but doesnt roar...for better sounds and performance you can go with the xr1 raceline mufflers from borla they are even better..i will get these soon..my friend has it on his saleen..sounds awsome with bassani x w/cats hope this helps

Joe Bullitt...
Don't just "take" the advice of any of us. "You" should make an informed decision based upon the information that you are able to gather from this source and other sources. "You" alone know what "YOU" are expecting out of your exhaust system. Always compare the "total system" not just the "these mufflers sound awesome" or "this intermediate pipe is the godsend". I've subscribed to this philosophy for the last 30 years and I've never been seriously disappointed because of one of my decisions. Just my $.02 FWIW.

NastyBullitt, did you cut the mufflers off as well?? Someone takin a tip from me. I cut the mufflers off mine the day after I bought it. Sounds GREAT. There is one drawback although I don't have dyno proof I feel SOTP that I have lost a little bit of torque. With other mods I have in mind it will be made up for. Spring the car gets 3.73's Alum ds and a Dr. Gas X pipe. Nice throaty rumble especially at WOT and not much louder than stock exhaust at idle. I have done this with every pony car I have owned. 97 GT, 2000 Camaro SS, and now the Bullitt.
