O.K. lets see who has the crappiest hours. They (FORD MOTOR CO.) just put me on a 3:00 A.M. starting time. Holy sh&* that sucks. The only good thing is, I can really open up the Bullitt at that time of the morning. Hell, noones on the road. Sincerely, the always tired David. Goodnight clubmembers z z z z z z z z z z z z z

Your right about the shift premium, but going to bed before 9 is really hard for me. I work on 3-4 sleep. It's not worth it to me. Some people LOVE it though. How's work going for you? I hope you guys stay busy.

Last summer as a student I had a maintenance position at a wood mill, and I started at 2:30 am and ended at noon. It sucked bad. The good thing was I got to see the sunrise every morning and got paid $25.00/hr (good for a student) to do it. I also got a hand at welding, torching, and using almost every power tool the world has to offer.

I LOVE night shift... Flexibility is awsome!
Either stay up when you get home and do whatever needs doing.. lawn, Dr. Appts, etc, or sleep as soon as you get home and have the whole afternoon and evening to play.

Hi XTC, well i happen to agree with you only getting 3-4 hours sleep, not to mention going to bed when the sun is still shining!! Anyway, work is steady for us here. We are still running 7 days with a few 12's during the week(which i'm on right now).
talk to you later buddy!!!

Blakwing, Oh yeah! nights are the best. Just like you say the flexability makes a world
of difference.

At my former position at Comair Airlines
as a Regional Jet Captain, we would arrive
at our destination at about 1 AM and get
up at about 4 AM to fly home. 3 hours sleep
and flying an airliner don't mix well.
Believe it or not it was all legal as per
the FAA! It was not very safe in my opinion.
I had called in fatigued on several occasions
at the hotel. I had not asked for overnights
like these, they were assigned to me since I
was a junior Captain. Should have remained
a senior First Officer but I had to get the
Captain time to go to the majors.

For those of you night shifters- ever tried melatonin to help you sleep in the daytime? I've never tried it but it helps some people. You have to take it an hour before you go to bed.

I have worked a few shifts over the years. 5pm-5am, 6pm-6am, 12pm-12am, 5am-1pm, 7am-4pm, 8am-5pm, 9am-6pm. The most unsettling for me is my current one, 7am-4pm, and the best one being 12pm-12am. I am a slacker by nature, so getting up early is much traumatic than staying up all night or going with little sleep.

Do I win the worst shift award?

Before I injured my back, my usual day started at 2:30 a.m. I drove line haul between Livermore and Visalia (Ca). I'd leave Livermore around 4:30 a.m. and drive 3+ hours to Visalia. Get my drivers loaded up and get them on the road. Then take care of any branch business and drive back 3+ hours to Livermore be off by 1:30/2:00. 400 miles round trip 5 days a week. Now I'm the Lead in the warehouse my hours are 8:00 to 5:00. Too much politics and bs for me. :???: Man do I miss being on the road!

I have worked different shifts, but now,for the last 15 years,6:30 AM-3;00 PM. Been doing the same old thing,Tool and Die repair and rebuilds, for 24 years. In 8 more years, that's it,I am done with it....No more working Saturdays or any days for that matter. Be able to live like a real _ _ _ _ _ man!!! To be politically correct, I cannot fill in the blanks!

I would always work out when I got home at noon, and then sleep till around dinner. I would relax and play a bit in the early evening and go back to sleep. I slept in 2 shifts. Right now as a student my tuesday/thursday classes don't begin until 12:20 pm. They end at 3:20. It's a short day, and I usually don't get up until 10:30 am. I'm now going to hide in the trunk of my Bullitt for fear of getting beat by the poor souls that get up early. And yes, I am a lazya$$ with a strong work ethic.

Now that I'm senior enlisted in the Maintenance department, NO more 2300-0700 I'm expected to work when ever or where ever I'm needed (which seemsd to be all the time). My day starts at 0530 when i walk in the door in my Maintenace Control and sometimes ends at when ever! My weeks are about 55 to 65 hours.
