Being the husband of a Bullitt owner (Christine), a Chaplain Assistant in the US Air Force and having just returned from Egypt just two days ago, this is probably as good a time as any to chime in. I was in Frankfurt, Germany on 9/11 awaiting a flight to Cairo when I was stunned to hear what was happening. I ended up staying in Frankfurt for four days awaiting further guidance. I continued on to Egypt for the largest military exercise in the world. (over 100,000 military personnel from 13 different countries) What better time than this, to show "coalition resolve". I've spoken to military personnel from several countries about the terrorist attacks and I can assure you, we have an incredible amount of support. It wasn't easy to be playing war games at at time like this, but the importance of the exercise took on a new meaning. My job quite simply is to set up ministry progams for our troops so that they have the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to worship freely. Here in the states, our military personnel can worship either on or off base, however when deployed, their only option is the chapel at the deployed location. Our staff has been extremely busy in the past two months, but very happy to be there to offer spiritual support to the deployed personnel. The freedoms that we enjoy daily are only dreamed about in most countries! In my travels over the past 14 years in the Air Force, I'm constantly reminded how good we truly have it in the US. Yes, there are those who take freedom for granted, but sooner or later realize that freedom isn't "FREE"! Whether it be the freedom to worship, the freedom to criticize, or simply the freedom to drive your Bullitt down the highway, these freedoms all come at a cost. Taking the Bullitt for a cruise, just yesterday, never felt so good! It's great to be back in this great country, the United States of America.
