When I first joined Bullittclub it would
randomly revert to a green tint maybe 5%
of the time. For the past week it is tinted
green 99% of the time. What is up with this?
Is it because I have an old computer system?
(6 years) Is it because I am logged on here
all the time and the monitor is adapting to
Dark Highland Green that Bullittclub software
emits via a "double-secret probation" bit/
byte code? Curious.

BTW, it has gradually gotten worse, not an
all of a sudden type thing.

PY,
What typically happens over time is that the phosphors/pixels on your monitor go out over a period of time. The lifetime of a monitor is dependent on the amount of use it sees over a period of time. This just happens and monitors will need to be replaced.

Well how about that! Thanks Donwil! That is
interesting! My wife and I have been puzzled
by this for a while. We know very little
about computers but we are learning. Thanks!

BTW, there are no reds on our screen either.
I noticed that one of the pins on the back of
the tower where the monitor plugs in is
broken off. I am assuning that this is the
red color pin.

Could also be the loss of the "Blue" gun on your monitor. You have 3 "Guns" in your monitor that fire teh 3 light colors at the screen, these then blend to make all teh other colors. If you lose your "Blue" gun everything will appear to have a Green tint to it.
Bottom line is that you'll probably need a new monitor.

TwoStangWmn, yeah, I was wondering for a
minute maybe I didn't donate enough or maybe
it was in retaliation for some of my obnoxious
signatures lately...like this one...

Do you ever see white? If so, all your pins for RGB are connected. Does your monitor have a color temperature setting? If so, go in and tweak it until everything looks to your liking. If your monitor has a green bias, and you still see white, then you need to pull down green (duh  ) and/or pull up red+blue (magenta, the complement of green).

If you need a new monitor, I highly recommend an LCD flat panel. Razor sharp text, excellent color, no distortion, full digital support (some models supports both analog and digital, analog only, or digital only. If you want to use digital, you'll need a video card that supports it).

Health benefits include no ionizing radiation, no static electricity build up in the air around your monitor, and very, very low electromagnetic radiation. They also use far less power... I like NEC and ViewSonic (I use an NEC 1810X (18.1" 1280x1024) and a ViewSonic VPA150 (15" 1024x768). Will get a 1600x1200 panel when the prices get (even) better).

Tell you what folks...I ADMIRE this club!
Where else can you ask a question about
ANYTHING and get info like that? NO WHERE!
WOW! donwil, Blakwing, Mid Life Crisis #388,
1NastyFordGT, TwoStangWmn and DrivingSimulators...
all dealing with a novice computer operator.
I'll call it Family...THANK YOU FAMILY!

BTW, since it looks like I need a new
monitor, I can't wait to use my 12lb. sledge
hammer on it after watching CNN and all the
ass kicking we are doing in Afghanistan!
Semi-productive venting...

Howdy folks! Thanks to all that posted!

In response...

donwil...thanks for the e-mail. Did you get mine?

Mid Life Crisis #388...all sites are green tinted, not just Bullittclub.

1NastyFordGT...thanks for that link, looks like nice stuff. My wife just informed me that we are getting a free monitor from a friend...free is good right now.

DrivingSimulators...yes, I do see white when the monitor is first turned on. This lasts about 1 minute then *blip* green screen. It will sometimes go back to white for a few seconds throughout the day. I am looking for the heat setting adjuster. What kind of simulators do you drive? Seahawk sims at NAS North Island per chance?

01281Sc93...thanks for the intro!

Man I love this club!

Thanks,

Collin

I think if the merger does go through, Dell is going to step up to the plate and really offer some great deals. When I got my Dimension 8100 last summer, I got the 1.7 P-4, 256 RAM, Flat screen Trinitron, CD/DVD/CDR, Surround speakers, a ton of bundled software and a free Epsom printer for $2000 inc. shipping.

Today you can get the Dimension 8200 with a 2GB P-4 and basically the same stuff as I have for $1,600.

I know you're an HP guy, but we have 2 Pavillions at home also and I'm absolutely sold on Dell now days.

Driving... Simulators... what kind of sim do I drive? While I do "drive" the simulator, it's primarily when I am testing/tuning it. One of the projects I am working on is a sports car Driving Simulator (using high fidelity physics and terrain).

I've written flight-sims as well, and have "driven" a sim that fully implemented PSM (post stall maneuvers and post stall turns long before real jets could do this  ). Circa 1991... Creating an excellent driving simulator is actually harder than a flight sim.

Well, well, well...I didn't realize how colorful Bullittclub is! I have a free monitor installed now from a friend. I think I need to put on some sunglasses its so bright here! Even before I got green screen on my old monitor, it did not have any of these colors...I was basically in the black and white TV age with the old one. Everybodies signature looks so cool...WOW!

Low tech PY is moving up a notch.
