I was at the track Saturday & had my best run yet of 14.25 @ 99.00 mph. Interestingly, there was a new Subaru WRX there. I only saw him go down the strip once, but shockingly, he didn't break 15! Now, that might be due to poor driving or maybe it was his first time, but that's pretty crappy. Too bad! Unfortunately, he left after that 'cause they don't allow FWD after test & tune is over. Coincidentaly, my second run was against a blue Charger. Even Steve wouldn't have caught this guy, he ran a low 12 against me. Oh well, my Bullitt's still stone stock. I'll get him next time.

i too came close to buying a wrx. they are sweet. if you dump the clutch at 5000 they just chirp and hook up. i saw two different bone stock ones run 14.3 in maryland. i've since been told that one of them is running 13.7's now. they are sweet cars but its a shame they can't bargain like the boys at ford. i'm also happier to have a car with some torque.

My Audi 1.8T quattro had some torque. I chipped it for 180hp and about 230lbft.

It could eat 5.0 Mustangs.

The 1.8T was fast, but it was gonna take $500 per month to keep it up. The dealer was 40 miles away and parts are stocked in a pile in Germany, under a WWII bunker.

WRX, slightly better- the parts pilekeeper speaks enough English to be bribed.

The Bullitt makes 260+ hp out the door. To make an Audi or Subie with that HP would take some cranking, and drive the reliability to the edge.

Thinnking of chipping my girlfriends 1.8T Jetta. She's up for it. Would I have to worry? I would thing the Jetta would be a lightweight compared to our car, though I don't know for sure.

I had an interesting occurrance recently with a WRX.....

But first let me say, I watch Speedvision alot. I see the WRX commercials and see them mop up in the rally races. Pretty cool...the commercials, anyway. At times, I think I could use one of them for tooling daily and hacking around the bumpy twisties, but the Bullitt is the one I couldn't live without, and I knew a Bullitt would be hard to come by if I didn't go for one now. WRX's will surely be popular, they're neat, and everyone who wants one can have one. They aren't cheap, either.

So, I'm hacking around a mountain road with 2095 and getting over the initial break-in period. Now I'm seeing what it can do. And it can do plenty. I'm getting to be a pretty smooth shifter and can pour on the torque effortlessly, without making a scene. I end up at a railway crossing waiting for one of those 300-car Reading Railway specials. I'm the first one in line. All I'm really thinking about is all that railway dust that Zaino says we need clay bars to remove....and a guy in a WRX pulls up behind me.

After the train passes, I proceed patiently, yet intently. I'm singing at about 50mph in third and Mr. WRX seems way too interested in me. I imagined he was a guy who might have bought a Bullitt, but opted for the WRX. I forge ahead, and soon realize that he's looking for a piece of me! I mind the 35mph speed limit past the local fire station, with him right on my but, and as soon as the limit rises for the next long stretch, I nail it. I mashed 2nd from about 40mph, ran up to 5400, chirped 3rd effortlessly, and looked back. Mr. WRX was pushing hard, but I had 50 lengths on him without blinking. I'm sure he was on it, cause after another mile or so, he's right back on me. It wasn't necessary for me to explain my position again. And it's obvious to me that there's no substitution for torque.

I like WRX's and would have been happy to stop and chat with the fellow, but the opportunity never arose. I'd like to think that he had fun, too. Somehow, I just think I'm having alot more!

230lbft to the front wheels makes a handful out of driving. My car blew cracks in the hoses several times (warrantied). If you do chip her car, then make sure you're on a first name basis with the tech guy.

HodRod mag had a little blurb about the WRX saying that these are the cars to watch.

Mitsu is bringing that Lancer (?) w/ 276hp and AWD to the US. WRX will have about the same as a special.

I've had my fun with stressing 4 cyl engines to make V8 power. Now its time for the real thing.
