Steering Pump Noise

Last night, as I was leaving a friends house, the car was making a loud whining noise that I suspect was the power steering pump. Was all set to take it to the shop today and, of course, no noise.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Haden't heard the noise but had to get a new pump. We caught a small leak only after a few thousand miles on odometer and Ford put in a new one.

no noise....did have small leak...dealer fixed it no problem with a new pump. No problems since.
